Leadership Overview

Like most of our principles, we address LEADERSHIP through the ‘impact drives income’ lens. This manifests in three key ways:

  1. Defining Leadership
    Amazon sells over 21,000 books on leadership and we’ve read a lot of them. When it comes to leadership, the famous Supreme Court framing could apply, “We know it when we see it.” 
  2. The Role of Leaders
    A wonderful philanthropist, veteran business leader, and For Impact friend Bob Werner says it best, “Leaders Lead.”

    The role of leadership should be:

    • Casting a Vision: Setting the story for the organization
    • Making decisions
    • Leading toward a brighter tomorrow
  3. The Role of Leadership in Funding (Leadership Engagement)
    The funding roadmap specifically calls out ‘Leadership Engagement’. Having the right ‘backing’ from leadership in both the design of your impact and your income is important – bringing credibility to your case.
  4. Leadership Consensus Building
    Leadership Consensus Building is a process we’ve built based on common principles and learnings of engagement, sales, and coalition building. It’s exactly what the name would imply – a process to build consensus (around a message, priorities, and/or a plan) that engages representative stakeholder leaders.

    As a process, it can be effectively employed to:

    • Test campaign feasibility
    • Accelerate campaign preparation
    • Align leaders
    • Build funding momentum
